Re: Problem with neighbours

Could you cat proof your garden to stop your cat venturing onto their property? They would then be unable to interact with him unless they took the extreme and illegal step of trespassing on your property to reach him.

Re: Harvey is missing (Penrith CA11 7TU)

Harvey is now found! He was sitting by the back door miaowing to be let in at 6.30 this morning. I suspect he may have been trapped in a garage or something over the bank holiday. He’s had a hearty breakfast and is now curled up with my other cat, asleep on the bed.

Harvey is missing

I am so upset. My beautiful Harvey, who I adopted nearly 4 months ago just disappeared from my back garden this afternoon. He never stays out more than an hour max and would NEVER miss his dinner, so I know something is wrong. He had settled in so well and seemed relaxed and happy and was bonding we...

Harvey is missing (Penrith CA11 7TU) (Found)

Last seen in my garden in Penrith at 3.15 pm this afternoon (Sunday 29th Aug). He is semi-long haired grey and white with a dark patch on his nose leather. He was wearing a collar with my phone number on it (although it’s a safety collar so may have come off if he got caught somehow). He never stays...

Re: wet food

Someone recommended Simpson’s to me, which you can get online. It’s got a very high meat content, is grain free and organic. I bought some. My cat loved it but it didn’t help his allergies any so he’s back on the hypoallergenic the vet gave him. I thought a “high quality” cat food might work just as...

Re: Skin issues

I've just remembered some advice I received years ago from a vet in London, before the days of Apoquel etc, regarding my then cat, George, who was another itchy pus. She said dust mites can often cause allergies in cats and because they are so close to the floor they are quite exposed to them, espec...

Re: Skin issues

I asked about antihistamines for Harvey when he had to stop the steroids because of his conjunctivitis. Her answer was that antihistamines dont tend to work very well in cats and suggested Apoquel instead. The Apoquel has worked very well, I have to say.

Re: Skin issues

Your poor pus! I sympathise because I'm going through the same thing with my cat, Harvey. He was prescribed a drug called Apoquel yesterday. Apparently this is a relatively new drug designed to treat allergies in dogs. It isn't licenced for use in cats, because the studies that were done in trials o...

Re: Can anyone recommend semintra?

It will stop the phosphate in her blood from getting too high. It's a job normally done by the kidneys but when the kidneys are failing blood phosphate levels rise. High blood phosphate will make your cat feel really poorly. Bringing phosphate levels down won't make a difference to the underlying di...

Re: Suncream on cats

Thanks Mollycat. That is a very informative article and really helpful. Its quite a large area of baldness so he will ingest quite alot if I keep putting it on so I'm not going to risk it as it seems even the safer suncreams may not be all that safe. I'll have a think about a harness but I'm not sur...

Suncream on cats

Hello everyone. I have finally acquired a new companion for my cat Walter. His name is Harvey. He is grey and white, semi-longhaired and totally stunning. However, he has a big bald patch on his back, between his shoulder blades which is either scarring from an untreated flea allergy or a chemical b...

Re: Chlamydia vaccine

Just letting you know, one of the vets practices I contacted kindly phoned the vaccine manufacturer, who were able to inform them of practices in the region who stock the vaccine. I contacted the nearest, which is about 20 miles away and have an appointment to get Walter vaccinated on Monday.

Chlamydia vaccine

Hello everyone. One or two of the regulars on here may remember my previous posts last year. Just to summarise, in my quest to find a friend for poor old lonely hearts Walter cat, I ran into problems with being offered a cat with cat flu, then a cat who turned out not to like other cats! Having suff...

Re: Cat diagnosed with possible IBD

Hi, I had a cat with IBD. The vet didn't even try him on the hydrolysed stuff because she said he wouldn't eat it. She advised either Royal Canin Gastrointestinal or Royal Canin Sensitivity Control, wet food pouches. He was fine on both. He was never given treats, as these can cause problem flair up...

Re: Raw spot on outer ear?

Hi Regchamp,

I know cats can develop cancers on their ears, and skin cancer can sometimes look like 'raw spot'. It's unlikely if your can't has always been an indoor cat, as it is usually caused by prolonged sunlight exposure, but if it doesn't heal in a few days, I'd take him to the vet to be sure.

Just to let everyone know, I asked the lady at the rescue centre to let me know when Lula was rehomed. She contacted me yesterday to tell me that a lady has adopted her and took her home on Friday, so alls well that ends well.

Re: 10 year old Male FIV, resue cat not using tray

Hi, Just to add to my previous post - you can find lots of stuff on the internet about cat-proofing a garden. There is specialist fencing you can buy but if you don't want that expense you can just look at the designs they use and modify the fencing you already have with a bit of DIY. He is older, w...

Re: 10 year old Male FIV, resue cat not using tray

May be take him to the vet to exclude a urine infection, as an FIV cat might be prone to infections.Wherever he has peed has to be cleaned thoroughly because if they can still smell their wee, they will go there again. Don’t use bleach though, as that smells like cat pee to a cat apparently. You can...

Thanks you Ruth, that really helps. I have been agonising a bit, thinking may be I should have given it more time but my gut feeling was that it wouldn’t have made any real difference and it helps to know other people think so too.

Re: New cat litter issues ?Guarding

Well Lula is back at the shelter. I cried all the way home. She seemed to know where she was as we drove in and started miaowing, obviously petrified again. I nearly turned round there and then and drove her back home but let my head rule my heart for once. I do hope I’ve done the right thing. They ...

Re: New cat litter issues ?Guarding

Thanks Ruth. Yes, I have made the decision. It's a catch 22 situation. To restore relations I have to separate them and it has to be Lula, not Walter, that is confined otherwise it will make things worse, according to the vet, because she'll think the whole flat is hers if she is given the run of it...

Thanks Mollycat. I discussed things with my vet earlier who was quite pessimistic about the situation. That Lula is creating holy Jo about being confined to the...

Thanks Mollycat. The rescue advised a week but I think you are right. New cat litter issues ?Guarding

Help! I adopted an 18 month tortie girl, Lula, from a shelter 2 weeks ago. She was advertised on here as being suitable to be rehomed with another cat. I bought 2 when I had 2 cats and they were on different food and also one was eating the others food as well as his own. I agree, they are brilliant! In fact, even though I now have only one cat, I still use one because, as Mollycat says, they keep food fresh so I no longer have a problem with wet f...

Re: Moving 180miles with an elderly cat? Help!

I have had several long distance moves and hv found; 1. The cats get stressed when the house is being cleared in readiness for the move, especially on the day of the move when all the furniture starts disappearing out the door. On the day of the move, lock them in one room so they aren’t over expose...
