Re: Kitty's cat burglar!

Lol - beware - what ginger tom may be saying is: 'Room for one more? Where's the night porter?'

Believe me I know these guys. And word gets round ...

So glad to hear the girl's so much better :D

Re: Kitty back to vets

Great news - I was worried, but it did occur to me that perhaps you had technological problems; phones and things always escape when they're wanted, grrr.

Hope the girl is over the worst now, big fusses to her :D

Re: Hyperthyroid with my cat

Hi and welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Why were two operations needed? Did the thyroid grow back? I confess I'm not an expert as I was lucky enough to be able to get my cat, Mouse, to a local centre where they administer the 'miracle cure' - radio-iodine treatment, which has proved a grea...

They catch you unawares don't they? In a way they live again on this plane in those split seconds but it's hell when the realisation sinks in. This is a weepy song by the way - Don Maclean's 'Empty Chairs', so don't click on the link unless you can stand it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtrIc8vq7...

Re: Should I give in ?

Ouch again! There is a book by Mike Tomkies: 'Liane, Cat From the Wild' which describes how he lived with a young Scottish wildcat; it's a good read, apart from his old-fashioned methods of housetraining (my copy has rude comments written all over it.) However Mike got his comeuppance. Liane liked t...

Re: Should I give in ?

Ohhhhh OUCH!

About 5 years ago I too had an op - there was I with my stomach unzipped like a pair of jeans and freshly stitched, and Molly did the same, jumped on it - OWWWW!!!

So I can commiserate 100%!

I'm glad the foil finally dissuaded her, naughty girl :)

Re: Kitty back to vets

Oh no, just when she was doing so well. :( This might be a rather extreme thing to say, but I'd be inclined to remove the onesie if she's got so obsessed about it. If you feel confident about doing this of course. Her stitches - or is the incision glued? - will be healing well by now and they can al...

Re: Mia - Chapter 3

That's typical - the toughest cat in the bunch is often the coward of the county when it comes down to it. In the 70s one of my moggies had a litter (smacks own wrist) and I had a very fierce black cat, Sulah, who was cornered by a four week old kitten ... Kitten (arching menacingly and prancing sid...

Oh good lass and good news - sounds like she's going from strength to strength :D Some of my girls have been a bit knocked out by the op; some have been a bit knocked out and have climbed up on the mantelpiece the minute I took my eyes off them; some have taken their stitches out within 24 hours wit...

Re: Kitty sudden change of behaviour

Do you think she could be constipated? Some painkillers can cause that, and even mild constipation on top of a sore stomach can't be much fun - not that there can be much in her bowel after the op. Personally I'd give the vet a call - a decent vet, or nurse, is usually happy to help, and even if it'...

Re: Hi I'm new - not very good at technology so apologies if I've posted posted in wrong place

I find it heartbreaking that it seems ok to most people to dismiss cats as "it's only a cat" - if dogs were treated as badly there'd be a huge outcry. Hi Gill and so glad to read of Kitty's story - plenty of good advice and you're doing all the right things. I TOTALLY agree with you. I on...

Re: Siamese genetic question

Hi and welcome. Yes, your boy will carry the pointed gene, and if a kitten has parents who both carry the pointed gene even without showing it, then it's possible for it to be pointed - but by no means guaranteed. It's a complete gamble. I knew someone who had a lilac-pointed Siamese who got out and...

Re: Practical ways to cope with incontinent cat

Hi and welcome :) Puppy pads come in handy; I wish I'd realised about them for an elderly forgetful boy of mine. I use unscented ones for everything now - in front of the trays, feeding mats, carrier blankets, even bedding for my python. If the vet visits I cover a table with them for the examinatio...

Re: Why is life so cruel and unfair ?

It is, and you think you have reached a plateau where you can cope - and then it all wells up again and overwhelms you. This is the nature of the beast, unfortunately. (Sorry if I sound cold or smug - don't mean to; when it gets to me I'm in chaos too.) I've said that about never having another cat ...

Re: Should I give in ?

Well, she is an awkward little horror. I'd personally be inclined to let her back into the bedroom - but make it very discouraging to get on the headboard - or even remove the headboard if that's feasible? If it has to stay in place, perhaps fix a length of tinfoil or a slitted binliner or two like ...

All wrapped up

Recently I bought several pairs of gaudy harem pants (ohhhh no I don't do grey!) And very nice too, comfortable and exotic for this ancient hippy  A couple came wrapped in sheets of tissue paper. I slung one sheet down in my usual untidy way - and Molly found it. Wow. It can be crumpled. Pounce...

My Molly has the same coat pattern, though she's ginger - close, sleek, and with what I swear is a perfect Burmese face and body type; we have some fascinating 'mongrels' around; I once knew a cat (called 'Stripe') who was the double of Mabel. So I wouldn't be surprised if Jasper turns out to be lon...
