Accidentally downloaded a poetry book on to my Kindle, and found this. Shared it with Lilith who suggested I post it here. Hope it amuses you all as it did me!
The Cats' Protection League
Midnight. A knock at the door.
Open it? Better had.
Three heavy cats, mean and bad.
They offer protection. I ask 'What for?'
The Boss-cat snarls, 'You know the score.
Listen man and listen good.
If you want to stay in the neighbourhood
Pay your dues or the toms will call
And wail each night on the backyard wall
Mangle the flowers, and as for the lawn
A smelly minefield awaits you at dawn.'
These guys meant business without a doubt.
Tree cans of tuna, I handed them out.
They then disappeared like bats into hell
Those bad, bad cats from the CPL.
Roger McGough
Worth the price of the download by itself (and yes, I know it's called Cats Protection nowadays).

Re: cat poem
My rescue cats, they second that!
You can take da cat outta da 'hood -
But you can never take da 'hood outta da cat!'
(Emily, do leave me a bit of lunch! ... that cat's manners ... )
It is rude, madam, to intrude, madam,
Where there's food, madam ...
Yeah, but I'm a heavy cat outta da 'hood, madam ...
Sorry

Re: cat poem
Hi Catslave thanks for sharing the poem. I posted under Mitzi that I hope you’re feeling better. Btw I’m doing a bit of editing for a children’s author, Jennifer Poulter. Jennifer is a cat lover & asked me to do edit her “Catitudes” poetry book. It’s published on line by Word Wings. She’s also offered to contribute to Little Paws Kitten Rescue’s book which alas has come to a grinding halt due to Kitten season & being really busy with surrenders & rescues. Just love this forum re support for our furbabes & us too not to mention the light relief in cartoons, verse as well as real life anecdotes ie Lilith & her pet Royal Python whose name escapes me atm Apologies Lilith hope she’s not offended...Vivian & the famous Four from Oz which nearly was & could be temporarily Famous Five as I rescued a 16mth Oriental mix girl early Feb. Pebbles has been at Petstock for a week praying for adoption. Why Pebbles? She’s white with black patches & black spots in her ears & was rather dirty when I picked her up.
