Moving to Spain

Post by Big-Bri »

Hi guys
New to this site I have re-homed 10 cats over the past 7 years and love them all very much I'm moving to Spain for health reasons and want to take them with me I've had
1/fleas done
2/ear mites done
3/Micro chips done
I need Rabies shots doing and then passports
Dose anyone know where I can get help to get these done as my vets want £1000 for the 10
And I've hit a blank as I can not afford this

I've tried cats protection

from what I've read £100 per cat is actually considerably less than the usual cost, and also I believe there is a maximum of 5 pets for most countries

I applaud your intentions but it is not going to be easy or cheap to make this move, and I think you are going to have to consider carefully the impact on the neighbourhood of where you intend to live of introducing 10 cats all at once - there are large feral colonies in Spain which are often not treated well, and I fear some Spaniards would not understand, or be tolerant, towards you

I agree with Kay about the number of cats and the impact they may have on the neighbourhood you are moving to. But I'm sure I could not decide on which of my babies to take - or leave behind. :?

How are you planning to transport your kitties? We have friends who moved to Andalucia (Gosh, 10 years ago!!) They took just one cat and drove all the way (Ferry to N Spain) They got Cuddles used to wearing a harness before they went and everytime they stopped they took her for a walk. She managed very well and had a very happy retirement sitting in the shade of her favourite olive tree or chasing lizards.

I don't know about 10 cats, but it is certainly do-able. I wish you all the best with your move and hope you will ALL be happy in your new home.
