Playing with water bowl?

Just rescued a birman older cat. He drinks from his bowl then pushes and pats it out of the tray, spilling all of the water. I have tried a heavier dish and putting other items in to restrict the space for paws, but he still gets it out. Could this be a medical issue. Only had him 11 days, and he started doing this 3 days ago...

Cats eh? No, he's not poorly, just doing his thing, which seems to be pushing water bowls around lol. Having one who kicks over the bowl if she can while playing, and experience of snakes who try to tip over ANYTHING, I can recommend the heavy earthenware bowls.

Unfortunately it sounds like he is just being a cat. As I just mentioned on a different thread we have a large ceramic dog bowl for water, after one of our youngsters like to play with the old plastic one and kept up tipping that, all over the carpet. We still hear the 'tink, tink, tink' of claws against the bowl as she tries to play with this one, fortunately it has with stood the test of time with her.

Our old Ragdoll also used to put his head under the water fountain we had for him and let it run over him and over the floor. He also used to have to 'dig' for his water, he would put his nose in then have a good dig at the floor around the bowl and only then drink.

They all have their own little quirks and we just have to adapt to them and try and stay one step ahead.

you could try standing the water bowl on something so it is around mouth height when standing, rather than paw height

Thanks for your replies - most interesting, and we have managed to wedge the water bowl in on a tray. No spillages (or playing with the bowl) today. Now we're getting them used to the big outdoors, supervised an hour a day. Don't know if they really have been out - ex owner said they had to the rescue centre. Scary times!

If it's a hard floor, would a big blob of blu-tac underneath the bowl help to secure it down perhaps ?

You think you have problems...our cat will only drink from the bathroom tap....he expects us to run upstairs and turn the tap on, on demand. Cats!!
