panleukopenia advice

Post by Spearce »

Hi all,

I’ve just joined the forum
I’m looking for some advice
My sister adopted 2 kittens from and animal sanctuary
She had them less than 6 hours and they showed signs of an illness, after rushing to the vets one passed away on the way and the other became seriously ill.
They did an autopsy on the kitten and Bet diagnosed cause of death as panleukopnia.

Has anyone got any experience with this illness?

The sanctuary want the other kitten back from the vets so they can treat it.

She would still like 2 kittens and is willing to throw away beds bowls etc and and start again she has already disenfected the kitchen where they were for the 6 hours.

Is this a feasible option to get 2 more kittens?

Thanks a lot

The only experience of Panleukopenia I have is that there is a vaccine available to protect against it. All my cats have been inoculated. I am shocked that your sister was given kittens that had not had the vaccine, so I would be very reluctant to give the remaining kitten back to the sanctuary. Get it treated and immunized, keep it and never get another kitten from that place.
