Neighbours threatened to kill the cats colony.

Post by baffacchietta »

Hello,
I am so sad.
There is a colony of cats and kittens living on the roof in front of my flat. I have been feeding them especially with this cold weather.
Today the downstairs neighbour told me to stop or he will kill them. he doesn't want the cats around his garden.
I don't feed the cats in his garden, I leave a dish on the roof with dry food.
I know his girlfriend is going to poison them for sure. But I can't do anything. RSPCA don't help with stray cats and the cats don't come to me, I have tried to catch them, but they run away.
I saw the kittens born, I saw them growing up, and the thought f them killed is destroying me.
What can I do?
Help me please

Hi Baffachietta and welcome.

What your neighbours are threatening to do is illegal; even if the RSPCA refuse to help with the cats I would have thought they would have been concerned; though they can be unpredictable I know. In this Rescue and Rehoming section you'll find the details of the Cats' Protection League who might also be able to advise if you ring them. Have you got any witnesses to these threats?

It's a horrible situation :( Good luck.

I agree with Lilith. In my opinion the RSPCA is no longer fit for purpose - so that doesn't surprise me.

Where we are, several of the vets work with our local animal shelter and will loan traps to get strays treated or out of harm's way.

I really hope you can find similar help and get these cats to safety.

Hi and welcome,

I agree, what your neighbours are suggesting is illegal. I would get in touch with rescues in your area until you can find one who will help. There will be help out there, but not all rescues have the resources to help with feral cats, and have traps available so you may need to ring round quite a few.

It’s important to get help to control a feral colony as soon as possible though, to try to prevent a kitten explosion. Try Cats Protection branches and independent rescue groups in your area, or if there is a Cat Action Trust branch in your area, even better as they specialise in helping ferals.
You haven’t said which area you are, but you should find a list of rescue groups near you here: http://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-re ... uk-ireland

Best of luck and keep in touch.
