how long left?
hello,
I am just trying to figure out a estimate of how many kitten my cat will
have, and when she will have them.
I think she mated in late January early February, but not to sure. she has
enlarged pink nipples, she has be recently nesting and today she has only
eaten a few treats not a normal meal. she still seems to be able to jump
onto things with no trouble but she is still very round. I sometimes see
the kittens moving around and i can certainly feel them. She slept most of
the day today and seems relaxed, she will follow me nearly everywhere i go
and is very affectionate and she is always licking herself. She hates her
stomach being touched, and is some times quite grumpy.

Re: how long left?
Hi and welcome.
You might find this useful - https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pet-advice ... endar.html
Generally a cat pregnancy lasts 63 days but that's a rough guide. She sounds to be pretty near her time from what you say. Especially if she's nesting; many girls adore a box - cardboard will do, as it's going to get rather wet and mucky, lined with newspaper, which the girl will enjoy tearing up, in a private place such as the bottom of a wardrobe or beside your bed. In fact this can be best, basic as it sounds; kittens can get trapped in blankets or sheets. There's some stuff called 'Vetbed' which is perfect as it wicks away all moisture - from birthing fluids and kitten wee (although she'll generally clean them up) but this isn't essential. Still needs paper underneath it of course.
Bless her, she will be grumpy. She'll be longing to get her stomach back to herself! Be prepared for anything now. I once woke up in the early hours with a loudly purring Siamese going into labour in bed beside me lol. Then the little horror decided to wait a while, wanted some chicken for lunch and got on with it in the afternoon ...
At the moment I'd tempt her with something light, like fish or chicken or one of those nice little cans of Encore etc, pricey but just right for a lady in waiting. After the kittens come she will have hollow legs where her grub's concerned.
Good luck with her and any questions, don't be afraid to ask. Most cats manage it all beautifully by themselves though. Let us know how she goes on and all the best to her

Re: how long left?
ok thank you very much for the advice.
her mum was a wild cat before we tamed her so she has only been used to the outdoors, but she comes in the house for the day sometimes. i have prepared a hutch outside for her, where she gave birth to her last litter of kittens.

Re: how long left?
I can't add anything to the advise already given, it isn't a situation I've ever been through, what I want to add is, if you aren't intending keeping her to breed her please consider getting her spayed as soon as she can be after this litter. She will have a much happier, longer, healthier life if she isn't producing kittens continually.

Hi and welcome I hope all goes well. You’ve probably gathered Cat Chat is primarily a rescue and rehoming site, (i.e. assisting rescues listing their cats for homing) and it’s good to hear that you are now considering neutering. This link has lots of helpful advice:carling3105 wrote:yes i have thought about doing that.

Re: how long left?
Ah sorry, thought you and she were first timers You'll have some practice then.
Yes, I too would get her spayed after this coming lot (and before the toms consult their little address books and get back to her) perhaps keep a kitten to cheer her up, and maybe they'd move in with you - even though some cats say they like their freedom, they're often ready to move in when the time's right, bless them; some of mine have been in the same situation and been dear pets. Got one sitting on the bed now
Good luck with the happy event

Re: how long left?
Several cat charities offer free spaying, ask your local RSPCA. In fairness and without trying to sound rude, 1 litter is an unfortunate mistake but 2 is cruel. Mating is not done after an evening at the theatre and a bottle of Chablis...is painful and often the female is literally ganged raped.carling3105 wrote:yes i have thought about doing that.

I help catch a couple of ferals recently, they have been spayed and neutered and returned. Several of us now feed them...not ideal but saves bringing kittens into this world and hopefully prevents a painful death.

Re: how long left?
Good luck with your little newcomers let us know how it all goes and yes I agree neutering would be best with over 30 years in rescue I am well experienced with the too many animals and too few homes situation however all owners have the right to make that decision/choice for themselves and I hope you come back on here if you want further help/advice without judgement as many people are happy to offer that

Re: how long left?
Ah, that can happen - hope she comes back 'on the boil' so to speak pretty soon; only time to worry is if they have a discharge but no action; then it's time to ring the vet and see what they say. But that's pretty unusual; they generally manage ok. Will she stay indoors with you so that you can keep an eye on her?
Please let us know how she goes on, all the best to the lass

Re: how long left?
Yep OK
She does come inside and i let her stay in as much as she wants to but when she wants to go out she will just stand by the door and look up at the handle.

Re: how long left?
Lol - as they do, little madams.
Has she got a tray - it's amazing how even ferals know what a tray's for. I'd want to keep her with me at the moment - though I didn't manage to do that with Emily, mother of my last feral litter. They have tremendous willpower I know!
But she brought them round to me later.
All paws and tails crossed here for the happy event
