Purrs to you for thinking of adopting a cat from a Rescue Centre!

Cats come into rescues for a wide variety of reasons. The most common reasons in our experience are: The owner has moved house to somewhere that doesn't allow pets, relationship breakdowns and divorce, the owner has died or gone into a care home, the owners are emigrating, a family member develops an allergy, the cat has been picked up as a stray, an owner has moved house and left the cat behind, the cat has just been 'dumped', unspayed females are given up or abandoned when found to be pregnant, 'stray' females giving birth to their litter in someone's garden... and many more reasons.

It is very rarely the fault of the cat!

Before deciding on what kind of cat (or cats) to adopt, please consider if you could give a home to the sort of cat who finds it harder to get chosen...

'Senior Kittizens' (over 10 years old)... plain black cats... black & white cats... shy or nervous cats... cat 'pairs' who are inseparable... cats with FIV... diabetic cats... deaf or blind cats... could you be that special person they have been waiting for..?

Locate your nearest rescue from the menus on this page, and ask about their 'harder to home' cats - every rescue we know of has some cats that are always overlooked - go on, make their day / year / life!

'Lucky' Black Cats?
Black cats, and black & white cats often get overlooked in favour of 'prettier' colours.

Shrinking Violets
Nervous cats often get overlooked, yet they can be the most loyal, loving pets given time.

Indoor Cats
Want a cat, but live in a flat? Some cats can be better suited to the indoor life: cats with FIV, deaf cats, blind cats, very nervous or elderly cats, or simply cats who have previously been used to living indoors.

Could you Foster?
Many rescues rely on volunteer fostererers to care for cats 'between homes'. Do you have some time and TLC to spare? Find out about Fostering Here:
