Hi Mike and welcome.

What are his motions usually like? Is he passing motions regularly?

Obviously I can't tell exactly without examining your cat's efforts, but one of mine, who is elderly and has problems with constipation occasionally (she is much better now she eats a high fibre dried food) sometimes passes wizened little objects like these, so I'm hazarding a guess that there might be some impacted faecal matter in your cat's bowel. Are what your cat's passing hard or soft? Did the vet examine his stomach?

I may be completely wrong of course, and hope there will be other people along soon who can shed some more light on the problem, but is there another vet who you could see, to ask for a general health check, in view of what sounds like a slight loss of condition in your boy, and show these lumps to? I must say I don't agree with the 'don't know' verdict - it's the vet's job TO know.

All the very best with him, and please do let us know how you get on :)

It's not faecal matter nor does it come out with it.
It's some sort of parasite.

Does it move when it comes out; is it alive? And are you in the UK or in a country where a parasite like this lives?

Well, after a quick google re feline stomach parasites, I agree, it's a mystery, but I really can't think it's anything to do with snails; even if your cat was in the habit of swallowing snails (unlikely) his digestive juices would reduce the body to nothing; the shell might emerge crushed up, but that would be it. There's no internal feline parasite resembling a snail; the largest internal parasite, the tapeworm, passes eggs/ breaks off in segments filled with eggs which are passed out of the cat's anus or even vomited up - unless these are dried tapeworm segments; it's a possibility. (I must add; my own cat's efforts are definitely faecal by the way; she hasn't got worms.)

Sometimes, especially with tapeworms, treatments may not always work the first time. I would try another vet and a more aggressive worm remedy if this is possible, and good luck - again please let us know if you find anything out :)

It only looks like a snail.
Maybe it's alien. ;-)

Have also sent this to clever institutes national and worldwide.
Will post what the outcome is.
Good to have this on the internet for future reference.

You say your vet doesn't know what it is, has he had samples to send off for investigation? I would have thought a lab test should be able to identify it, or even a DNA test if it really is obscure.

Have sent photo's to veterinair-microbiologisch-diagnostisch-centrum here.
Possibly they will test it if i bring it to them.

Will call them this next Monday.

(Local vet has a 'don't know; your problem' attitude.)

Lol maybe it is an alien

But hope not for your boy's sake - he's a beautiful cat by the way.

I'll be very interested to find out what it is - shame on local vet though :(

Good luck!
