Trial adoption - legit?

Post by nienna »

Hi - looking for some advice please!

I'm wanting to adopt a rescue cat, and have found one that looks lovely. She's currently in Hungary, but is coming across to the UK for adoption in a few weeks.

The lady who's collecting her once she's brought over has offered me a 'trial adoption' - to see if we click and it works out.

I've never heard of this before so was wanting to know if it was common practice in the rescue world? From the sounds of it, this lady and her friends rescue animals privately, and are not part of an official charity.

Anyone heard of this?
Thanks
Nienna

I'd be more concerned about her coming from Hungary than a trial adoption, especially if it isn't an official charity.

Hi booktigger and thanks for your reply.

OK - so are 'trial adoptions' a thing over here? I hadn't come across it before with rescues.

Thanks!

There are so many homeless cats in the UK that some are being euthanised. Please have a look at the cats available in your area:

This cat in Barnsley needs a home urgently:

It's not very common, but the rescue I've just started fostering for does a week trial

I’ve seen cat rescues with cats listed as reserved/trial adoption.

Hi
Believe me, I have! All my past rescues have been through UK charities, but now it's a lot harder because I'm looking for an indoor only cat. I've more than ten charities and they either have no indoor cats, never get back to me, or say they'll do a home check but never get back in touch. This has been going on for months.

As I said, I tried to go with UK first, but ultimately to me a cat in need is a cat in need- regardless of where it's from.
