Rachel, the young Kestrel, was brought to us in January after being picked up off the road. She was very weak and extremely underweight with some bruising to her beak. After 3 months in our care, Rachel built up the strength and confidence needed for her release day. 💙🧡💛

Rehabilitation of birds of prey uses a huge amount of sanctuary funds and resources. Please consider a donation to help us to be able to continue our work.

The aviary donated by the wonderful charity group at Dronfield Junior School has been put to work!
Carter, one of our regular volunteers, finished off making the aviary safe and helped to get it in place. And it wasn't long before it started to fill with garden birds needing to build their strength ready for release day. We can already see the benefits the aviary is going to have as part of our Wildlife rehabilitation programme, and are now looking to add two more.🧡💛💙

The aviary is on our Amazon Wishlist ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Copper the Tawny Owl was spotted in Great Hucklow, Derbyshire stumbling across the road and then fell into a ditch. Cold, wet, and extremely underweight, Copper is very lucky to have been rescued as he wouldn't have survived much longer on his own. He spent the first night in our new larger brooder to help keep his temperature stable, and the following morning, he seemed a little less wobbly . He weighed in at just 280g. For comparison, a healthy adult Tawny, depending on its age and sex, should weigh between 380g and 800g. Copper was moved into one of our intensive care units in the Wildlife Hospital so that we could hand feed him. And then yesterday, we had a huge breakthrough! After being with us for 4 days, Copper fed himself two chicks during the day and another two overnight. And he's just had another one for breakfast! The team is feeling positive.💙🧡💛

Would you like to help wildlife like Copper? Why not become a Wildlife Angel? Membership is from just £4 a month and supports our work.

Four little kittens were brought in by one of our volunteers. They are around three weeks old and very underweight. We've arranged for a trap to be set up for their mum, who we understand to be feral. We presume judging by the kittens' condition that she hasn't got much milk but will assess her once she's contained and make a plan. Her kittens will be cleaned up and made sure they get the care they need and lots of tlc.💛💙🧡

When Chance arrived at our Wildlife Hospital in October 2023, we honestly didn't think he would survive the night. But we gave him the best care we could, and after 6 months with us, he was finally strong enough for release day!
The team is absolutely thrilled. Our Ghost Owl is off to make his new life. There are several Barns Owls thriving in the area, so we are hopeful Chance finds a mate soon and thrives too.💛💙🧡

About our Animal Sanctuary & Wildlife rescue

Pet Samaritans (formerly known as St Bernard’s Animal Sanctuarty) and Wildlife Rescue centre is located in derbyshire. Our facilities are home to abandoned, orphaned, injured and unwanted pets, dog, cats, horses, ponies, small animals and wildlife. The centre provides a pet adoption service but if animals are not able to find a new home, they stay with us for life.

Leave a Legacy to the animals – Running an animal sanctuary requires a huge amount of resources and a legacy to the Pet Samaritans would ensure we have enough funds to continue our work and help all animals, great and small, in our care.

If you are thinking of leaving us a legacy and would like us to look after your pets, please get in touch with us to make arrangements for them and we’ll send you out our legacy pack.

Our wildlife rescue service in runs throughout the year. Our mission is to help rehabilitate wildlife and hedgehogs before releasing them back into the wild. If you would like to support local wildlife in your area, you can help by becoming a Wildlife Angel.

Promoting animal welfare is a big part of animal sanctuary life. Through schools, home education groups and local communities, we promote animal knowledge, care and wildlife awareness.

We offer an emergency pet care service and lifetime care for pets when owners can no longer look after them. Many of our rescued animals are unsuitable for re-homing. Safe at Last, they stay with us for life.

Our Pet bereavement line on 07872 421878 is open everyday for owners who have lost a pet. It can be hard coming to terms with the loss of a friend and we are hear to help.

We operate all year round and accept wildlife admissions from across the UK. Please call first to make an appointment.
